Isolated tract of Forest Service land. Much of the floodplain complex observed today were Tsuga canadensis - Betula alleghaniensis / Rhododendron maximum with and without Quercus rubra, and successional tulip poplar. There are several nice cobble islands in the river with Carex tussocks. Across the river from this plot is a sycamore tall herb community with Hasteola suaveolens. One of these communities could be sampled late.;Temporarily flooded forest on a cobbly terrace. There are several old barkless flotsom piles in the plot. Much of the forest floor is covered with round river rocks. Most of which are covered with litter.
Representativeness
Small patch of sycamore - yellow birch / eastern hemlock floodplain forest. Plot was placed to accentuate the cover by sycamore and to avoid great laurel.
